the beginning

Many of my concepts begin with the raw materials. It is the starting point of any collection. How will it feel both figuratively and realistically? What mood am I setting to make the person seeing it and wearing it? I have boxes and boxes of swatches: vintage, personal, things found at yard sales, samples cut up and ready to be tossed. Some are teeny-tiny bits of threads, but they are enough to get my creative flow going and little pulses of creativity pumping. This concept was one of my little work sessions I did on a weekend voyage. I was collecting new fabrics and Lee McQueen was in my head. I had just finished watching his documentary again and the tartans and the darkness were in the back of my mind. We were preparing for Holiday and I wanted an elevated, feminine and traditional craftsmanship for our lingerie that season. Shiny and silvery, dark and mysterious. I always love to write a story behind the initial idea. It gets the team excited and allows them to think of their moments or stories that they could write for this. Uniquely written and designed, with a narrative all her own.
