Pink: Peonies. Pretty. Posh. Physical. Pointe. Pure. Punk.
Working in lingerie and at VS, pink was our heritage. I had always loved pink even before that, but there was a strength in having to balance a romantic sexiness and a power it had on the psyche. It had a softness. A purity.
I never am fond of blue pinks, they are too cold, too harsh, not happy enough. A de Kooning Pink, now that’s a pink. A tint of yellow, a warm hue, a warmth inviting like a hug.
One of my favorite colors is the Purest Pink. The pink you see in a summer sky after a harsh thunderstorm hours before. The sun has set behind her clouds, but her warmth is still coating the sky.
I may have named more Pinks in my time than a box of Crayola crayons. The most subjective of colors, the most polarizing of opinions. We discussed pinks at lengths and over many lunches.
Flashback,
I twirled around in pointe shoes, contrasted with an architectural leotard. Tight Topknot, powder pink ribbon encased. Tori Amos, Silent All These Years at the barre.
It’s romantic, yet strong… forever yet fleeting. It is the color that is my first on my palette and is last in my memory. It is my color.
