little nest
A room of his own…
Oeuf Elephant crib. Bonton bedding. Textiles on crib collected in Japan. Textiles on pillow, vintage. Stella McCartney bunny blanket. Bonpoint booties. Rug from Marrakech. Chantilly Lace paint Benjamin Moore.
Stephen Coomber QUilt I had made for Grey. Bringing in denim, shirtings and indigos.
Oeuf Crown.
I created this mobile by collecting objects throughout my travels, ornaments and from the gift department at Abc Carpet & Home. Wool Pom-Poms from Etsy. Ribbon from Mokuba and Abc Carpet & Home. Mobile fixture sourced in Copenhagen.
I created this from arrows and woodland creatures from Abc Carpet & Home. I drilled little holes in the top and strung the twine to create the hanging piece. We now have these figures to use with our everyday play and as friends of Gre'y’s dinosaurs. Ribbon from Mokuba.
The Plywood Wall spoke to me from the beginning. I loved the contrast of the natural elements inside with the grit outside of our Brooklyn apartment. It also cast a warm light and perfect for all our family photos and poloroid’s at the ready. Washi tape was always a given!
The palette was always grounded in indigos, creams, greys and Birch. I wanted to have natural elements within. I hung the branch to give some depth, and create a faux closet for our favorite pieces. Poms from Etsy. Rabbit gifted. Liberty and Mokuba ribbons. Container Store baby hangers.
A favorite story of mine, Alice in Wonderland. I loved the rabbit and the burst of color he produced on the entrance of Grey’s room. I attached with some polka dot Washi tape.
This was the first swaddle and item I bought when I found out I was having Grey. It was the beginning of our story and his inspiration piece for his little nest.
This is still my favorite interior project to date. I loved being able to create a space for my greatest joy and know that I would love it as well. The inspiration was always a woodland story with indigo blues and denim being the grounding substance. I had so many vintage textiles I had collected along the way and knew they would go beautifully and create added warmth to the space. I first picked the crib when designing this space. I knew it would take the most room and I essentially only needed this and a dresser. The changing table would nest nicely on top of the dresser until it was no longer needed. I knew I wanted the dark Elephant Grey with the natural wood to be the starting point in furniture finishes. The grey, ivory’s and blues would warm the contrast and create a Scandinavian vibe. Creating the mobile was the most demanding labor of love, mentally and physically, but also my greatest joy of the project. I needed to balance many weights and items all while making sure it was safe and secure. I think it took me days to keep going back to the little ties and knots. It quickly became the central piece with the hanging art above of woodland animals, which was my main objective. Very much worth the time and headache that little number created. The collective of materials, wools, indigos, cashmeres and naturals also helped to harmonize this complete space. It instantly felt soothing when you walked into the room. The tree branch added a depth of the outdoors and also created a savvy place to hang his (or mine to be honest) favorite looks. Every detail was carefully selected and thought of. I wanted this room to have a longer life than just a nursery. They needed to grow with Grey and be re-purposed for other parts of the house later on. The books, the objects, the Polaroids, the textiles… I loved how they all came together to tell a story. All have a past as they welcomed our future, Grey to the world.
